Some pictures of a beautiful thing.

Yeah, I know I posted about the F-14 a while back, but this big guy here is the real love of my life! Thanks you, Air and Space Smithsonian, for saving one of them for me to see. (-:

  2. Canned nearly ten years ago, my friend, I'm sorry to say.

Most of them were stripped down, towed out into the middle of the Atlantic, and sunk to form an artificial reef.

I can't remember the number of surviving aircraft left on the planet, but it's something like 20. Not many. )-:

  5. A military brat? Navy Reserve.

Ugh. I'll admit it- the A-10 is one of the few aircraft I just cannot handle, no matter how hard I try. It's most of my friends' favorite, though.

  6. Really? I know someone who abhors the ugly beats, personally . . .

  7. I like 'em because they look cool and have some amazing abilities. Such as being able to make it home with half their wing surface gone. :)

  8. Actually the A-6 could make it home with half its wing gone and the vertical tail sheared off! (It was an EA-6B, but the airframe is essentially the same. The Prowler tragically cut a tram cable in two, killing several people).
