If simple spelling was that much easier, it would be common already.

God BlessAndrew Stinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12006398936164979887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15414540.post-1152370720088131172006-07-08T10:58:00.000-04:002006-07-08T10:58:00.000-04:00Here's another way to look at it. To make the changes this article mentions would really mess up the world-language system as we know it. If Russians, Polish, African and Chinese can learn to spell English the way it is, it shouldn't be too hard for American's. I mean, have you actually seen how the Polish spell??Follow my Whimsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16194209516387919765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15414540.post-1152326371177780532006-07-07T22:39:00.000-04:002006-07-07T22:39:00.000-04:00This is true. It all stems from a certain laziness which is inherent in the American psyche, which makes them want everything to be made easier for them.

Spanish ain't exactly phonetic all the time, either, now that you mention it. It's nowhere near as malfunctioning as English, but every language has it's quirks. Oh well. The article just made me shudder with the very idea that this would some day take place.Fideliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05153940948852223051noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15414540.post-1152316669060799882006-07-07T19:57:00.000-04:002006-07-07T19:57:00.000-04:00You know, if they actually taught kids how to spel...You know, if they actually taught kids how to spell in the first place, it wouldn't be that big of a problem.
I'd also like to point out that German, while very phonetic, has it's own quirks and odd spellings that don't always fit the phonetics.
Fixing the spelling is a neat idea, but I don't really think its all that practical. Besides, if we fixed the spelling, English would no longer be one of the hardest languages to learn. :)Follow my Whimsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16194209516387919765noreply@blogger.com
